What can I do with my raspberry pi II ?
Hi all,
Having recently purchased a meteobridge pro for my Davis vue, I no longer use my raspberry pi 2 which I ran cumulus mx on for connection to Meteotemplate.
What can I do with my raspberry pi ? Ideally I would like to keep it weather orientated but am open to suggestions !
Over to you !

Re: What can I do with my raspberry pi II ?
Hi
I made my first Pi producing, webcam pictures from the top of the roof.
It is sending pictures every 5 minute to my server.
The Pi is situated inside dry and comfortable under roof, connected to a Pi camera-modul outside on the roof with a normal HDMI cable.
This was also my first project using my 3d printer for the mounting outside (own design) and the case for the Pi (modified design from the net) some pictures of the project here.

The result are included in my webpage, has been running for nearly 1½ year now (realising it must be time for cleaning)

Still got a couple of Pis laying around, so i look forward to se what they could be used for.

Nice one georg very clever design work, I guess you can reach the camera from the adjacent window for maintenance? In other words you're not risking life and limb on ladders.

Yes, that is the way it was installed as well.
No drilling no gluing,
just reach out of the window lift the tile a bit and you are done.
That is part of life, being lazy, and finding the simplest way to do things.

I still use my RPI2 for reading data from my two Vantage Pro2 weather stations, but recently this RPI2 had four instances of weewx running: pro2 with vantage driver, same pro2 with meteostick driver, TFA Opus WS with ws28xx driver en TFA KlimaLogg Pro with klimalogg driver.
The SD card was only used during booting via the wired network (berryboot) to the weewx software on my Synology NAS were also the remote MariaDB databases are.
I have two instances of meteotemplate running for the data presentation of the vantage pro2 stations.

Not weather related, but I built a aircraft tracking device.
I can view real time flights in my area up to 250 miles.

I send my data to FlightAware where they combine it with other users.

I did exactly what wxthomson did. I have it out across the yard with the antenna at the top of my mast and the Pi in my shop. It then sends via WiFi the plane tracking. It’s pretty cool. Love the camera idea for a secondary to maybe have oriented almost straight up.

Thank you to you all, But i think I will be exploring George’s ideas around using the pi with a webcam to transmit the picture from my mast back to my meteobridge.

Re: What can I do with my raspberry pi II ?
I do the same as wxthomson and use mine for aircraft tracking and uploading to multiple sites (Flightaware, Flightradar24, Radarbox & Plane Plotter) which gives me mobile apps for some of the sites free of charge and upgraded accounts for the rest.
The webcam does look good and my first WeatherCam was based on the Pi and the first gen pi camera. I did find this suffered from UV quite quickly and it was always very static intolerant, so have used Foscam security cameras and logitech webcams since. The PI cameras have come on considerably since then though so shouldn't suffer quite the same as the first gen one did.
You could use the pi for both purposes if you wanted as well as it is quite powerful and more than capable of doing multiple things at the same time.
