Hi,
most likely this is due to the end of WU API. WU is transferring to a paid mechanism, no more free APIs

They say if you are a PWS supplying data to them, they may eventually have a free api available. Right now they do not. Their whole site is undergoing major upgrades right now, and things are not working well yet.

Within the new member settings pages they are just putting up there is an option to generate a new api key. I just generated one, but I haven't tried using it in the block yet. It basically states in agreement that it is free as long as you are a PWS contributor and that you don't use it commercially. It did not ask me for any payments.

I hope they decide to respond in kind to all the people that send them data, which they now want to resell, and provide API's for contributors.

I've been sending data to them since 2005, and I am currently questioning if I wish to continue.

THANK YOU

Their site no longer works for APIs it generates a CLE that does not allow me to have access to forecasts

The API only serves me for forecasting.
there are other possibilities without going through WU
It will not do them any more publicity

My router tracks the number of packets sent to specific sites. I just looked at the report for yesterday, and my weather PC sent over 26,000 packets of data to WU yesterday. (I am running rapidfire).

I will continue for now, or until I can get an answer from them if contributors will get an API, or not. As they say "no ticky, no washy"

Check your member settings on the new page setup. There is an api tab right there. Click into it and it will give you a new key. I doubt they would have included it in the new upgrade if they didn't have plans for it. Now the issue is the block probably needs to be modified as it's likely that the data format has changed. I'd stay in a holding pattern with them for now until the new, major upgrade from last week gets ironed out. Things haven't good too smoothly. They have clearly said in their forum they are working a free api plan for contributors.

Found it, got a new API, which I have installed into the forecast block, still displays "Forecast currently not available."

I'll check it later this afternoon.

Mine doesn't work either. I put in the new key several days ago. I'm thinking either it's related to their upgrade problems, or they have changed something in the api such that the current block code doesn't work.

I have attempted to escalate this to WU to explain that the API key is not allowing me to display there forecast on my website, by choosing the options where I need to provide the API key, only to receive the following message when I click 'send email' "Validation failed: weather_underground is invalid." so I'm assuming that the API key isn't even valid enough to contact them for support. The message displays only briefly, then reverts to a blank form.

I guess you won't hear any complaints or problems if the submission process won't work.

Hello!

Looking at your site everything seems to work. Which block or plugins are you using your new IBM api key on as I can not see which is not working.

If I remember correctly when I got my new IBM api key which should be a replacement for the WU api key we are allowed 1000 calls a day for free. I remember the older WU key was 600 calls a day. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong as I have not played around with it but am using there radar images in a modified camera block and works just fine without using an api key even though in setup it looks for a key. Not sure how it is working but it does.

Andy.

For the simple reason I have set Weatherground to false in the forecast block.

It is the forecast block, which defaults to Darksky.net at the moment. I have set WU to true so you can see it produces only a "Forecast currently not available." message.

Ok I have it. I inadvertently deleted that block because of lack of use. I see what you mean as I have allot of the choices no longer working. Strangely my Darksky API no longer works but is a good api. As far as Wunderground I think the block looks like it needs a major rewrite to get it working and I don't think anyone wants to tackle that yet till TWC and IBM settle on what the New WU will look like. Yahoo and yr.no no longer work but we knew that. I'll look at it when WU figures out what they want in a month or so maybe.

Andy

PS. I did try it with the new WU or TWC or IBM whatever their calling it now API.KEY and of course it does not work with the old block so.....

And again strangely I see yr.No working on some sites and not others.

I just gave up on them. Over 15 years of sending Data to them, and this is how they support the users.
Shut off all my data feeds, not worth my time or hassel.

Simply replacing the old key with the new key will not work. The API call for the new key is to a different address than the old key, and the results are not exactly formatted the same as before. I have not dug into it, but this should be fixable. The new API does support a 5 day forecast, but the coding for the call and the formatting issues need to be changed.
