Hi Lespius,
I confirm at 100%, it's really cold
I can't send my kid play outside, too cold.

Donald Trump:
Btw. 12°C here today.... average for this time of the year is around freezing point. Yesterday we had snow, but a major warm front came at night, it all melted and it is now over 10°C (50F). Yesterday it was freezing
This is what you get when somebody who knows absolutely nothing about something thinks just because they have power they can do whatever they want. Good Job Donald, you proved to me yet again you are an arrogant selfish * who in addition lacks basic knowledge and common sense.In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against. Bundle up!

Our sentiments exactly. Please don't hold the musings of Mr. Trump against us. The vast majority of Americans do not support this type of thought. I'm embarrassed for us (the American people), we can do MUCH better. Only 3 more years!"This is what you get when somebody who knows absolutely nothing about something thinks just because they have power they can do whatever they want. Re: Cold weather in North America
Yep, that's pretty cold ! I have experienced once as low as -25C in high mountain. That was terrible.
Here in Switzerland we have had a rather cold month of December, but as Jachym wrote we are now in a warm sector. All the snow has disappeared...

The "vast majority" eh? And you know this how? Perhaps you meant about 50% don't agree?WyoDog wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2017 6:40 pmOur sentiments exactly. -27 F here this morning. Coldest I've ever recorded since keeping records. Must be "climate change" the hoax formerly known as global warming.

Re: Cold weather in North America
That's some pretty cold temperatures!
The record low of my town is almost -22°C (-7°F) and this was recorded already in winter 1928/1929.
I very often complain when we get mild and rainy weather in winter, like it is currently the case here, on the other hand i couldn't imagine having -30 or -40 lows for weeks either.
Coldest i ever experienced was -29°C and this was not outside but in a cold chamber.

Re: Cold weather in North America
N0BGS , do you think its a hoax?
you do realise that its called global warming
not what is happening this week at your place
you do realise that currently the arctic is warmer than normal and sea ice is at record lows?
what is happening for you us that the cold air that is normally over the arctic has shifted over the north american continent (except the west coast, which is having record warmth, on the other side of the stuck weather pattern..i.e the current weather pattern you have is due to a jet stream that is diving south more and is also staying in one place longer than normal...this is part of climate change)

Re: Cold weather in North America
I don't envy some of you. The other day I did a quick check of this station's December 2017 temperatures.
From the site's Facebook page:
From the site's Facebook page:
It is rare at the station for temperatures to drop below 0ºC and there are many places around the world, including Australia, where temperatures exceed those at the station site, Looking at your records, chaps and chapesses, I'm ever so grateful that I live in a so-called 'Temperate Zone'.I have just been perusing the data from 2017-12. If you thought it was warm, it was. Just a few figures extracted on a whim:
No. of days => 30ºC = 13 (excluding those => 40ºC)
No. of days => 40ºC = 3
No. of days => 100ºF (37.8ºC) = 4
(We did have a day with 37.6, so technically not valid for
inclusion)
No. of days with overnight temperature min of => 20ºC = 9
Yesterday, the first of 2018, had a maximum of 33.0ºC. This morning's minimum was 17.3º.
That's your trivia for today.

No, I didn't realize that but thanks for setting me straight. Thanks.weather display wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2018 1:10 am N0BGS , do you think its a hoax?

You must mean the sea ice is supposedly at record lows since we've been watching it via satellite beginning 1979? Record lows compared to....? Let's imagine that is true. Why is that bad? What terrible thing is going to happen to me if this is true?
Let's say that you are emperor of the world for a moment. Let's further say that you command your advisors to provide you with a plan that would cause global sea levels to rise 5 feet by 2028. How, exactly, would they bring this about?
Just wondering.

Re: Cold weather in North America
you do realise that there is emperical data available going back 1000's of years
(ice core samples, tree ring samples, legends from local inhabitants etc)
also the sea level drops during an ice age, and then increases again when the globe warms up
so if the globe warms but more, it increases more

Re: Cold weather in North America
Three more days and here in NY we will have a record for the most number of consecutive days below freezing (15), although it’s been mostly around 10 degrees each day with lows at or below 0.... this is on Long Island!!!
