Rain block

Post by WyoDog » Tue Sep 26, 2017 6:20 pm

During the past week we have received a lot of precipitation (for us, we live in a semi-arid area) so I have been getting increased web traffic checking on rainfall. Which is great, it's all about web traffic for me.

One of my website users contacted me asking why 0" of rain today shows as 100% of average.

I'm not sure of the explanation.

Screenshot of issue.

any suggestions?

It means that all 25 Sep in your db have 0 rain, so even 0 is technically speaking 100% of avg

Hey Jachym

That makes perfect sense. Sometimes I tend to overlook the obvious.

thanks

Jachym,
Is there a possibility that the rain block could have the option to show the month and year comparison against the new precipitation normals values introduced with MT16? May be an option in the settings for the rain block.
I have only started in 2016 so the comparison is of limited use (as you pointed out with the new normals option).

Hi Justin,
these averages are calculated on a daily bases using db, so you would need daily cumulative normals for this

Just installed the latest version with the options for displaying seasonal rainfall. As it stands we would have to remember to manually update the block settings every three months. Would it be possible to automate this - eg specify four seasons 12,3,6,9 or simply select an astronomical or meteorological option as in other settings?
Regards,

Simon (WessexWeather)

Hi,
this is for countries that have a specific rain period, calculated annualy, but not starting in January. It is not meant seasons like you are used to (spring etc.)
