warningsEUregions data incorrect

Post by Asobig » Thu Jan 25, 2018 9:56 am

The block 'warningsEUregions' shows for The Netherlands 20 warnings. If you open the map you see (at this moment) only one warning for Texel. In the text all other warning are related to Extreme low temperature, but that is false.
Has Meteoalarm changed the RSS feed?

I tried to clear the cache, nut no difference.
Anyone else with the same problem?

I am having the same problem for the last 3 or 4 days and it didn't correct yet. It shows warnings for all 25 regions in Portugal, and for those regions that have no current warnings (showed in green) it shows "rain warning".
Clearing cache is not solving the problem.

Hi,
the problem is that they have website and XML feed. Meteotemplate uses their XML feed and very often that feed is not updated or shows nonsense. And as we have seen in the past, it "fixes itself" once they update it or correct it. Given this is the only centralized EU warning webpage, there is not much that we can do.

Hi Jachym, thanks for your explanation. I will be patient then, and wait for their XML feed to be ok.
This block is very useful and it has been working very well up to now.

Hi Jachym,
Almost one month later, WarningsEuRegions is still not working correctly.
It always shows warnings for all regions and when there is no warnings (green) it displays a rain warning

I tried to solve this issue but my knowledge is too short to understand how you parsed their data... :-)
Could you please take a quick look and see if their XML feed has changed and if the former way of parsing their data is still correct?
Thank you soooooooo much!

Dear Jachym,

I came across this one as well, and I couldn't detect any "self-healing" (also not by emptying the cache). This means that Kreis Germersheim in the sunny south-west of Germany still reports (in green) a warning for snow and ice today. :o

Whilst I understand your explanation, would it not be a possible solution to filter-out the "green ones" (= there is actually no warning), maybe as an option with a checkbox in the setup?

Kind regards,
Christian

Hi,
this is not a solution, who knows if this is a general rule. I will have to remove this one, the data source is unreliable.

Hi Jachym,

Thanks for yor reply. I actually find these warnings super-important, and would rather like to see them fixed than skipped, if I manage to convince you ;)

If I take todays Belgium warnings on my site, everything is green - Which is correct: No Warning. However I see the words "Coastal Event" in all 10 regions, which is wrong. If I compare to the meteoalarm RSS file called in the blocks php code (http://www.meteoalarm.eu/documents/rss/be.rss), there it says "No special awareness required" everywhere - Correct again.

I have a tendency to think the meteoalarm data may this time not be the cause of our hassle; And I still believe the block would be better unterstandable as "warning block" if it din't show nor count (at least optionally) the green non-warnings.

Kind regards,
Christian

Hi Jachym,

Today, I unfortunately came across a remaining point, that caught my attention: There are two regions in Germany that warn in orange from thunderstorm -Kreis Steinburg (thunder) and Rendsburg-Eckernförde - Binnenl. (thunder&wind). DWD show that, meteoalarm, meteoalarm/rss and the map on meteotemplate-block as well.

On the warning list of that block, however, Steinburg has gone missing, and Rendsburg only shows wind in yellow.

Update 2.5.'18: I have the impression what I described above may have been in relation to the update installation having occured just few days before. I havn't seen such "misalignments" later again. Therefore best consider it a non-issue, and enjoy the well-functioning block. I'll keep an eye on the issue, should it re-appear ;-)

Sorry to bother you again,
Cheers,
Christian
