weewx or Cumulus
Hi Guys,
I want to change my PWS set up.
I have an Aercus weather ranger (WS1001 Clone) who send data directly to WU( shame on me isn't Jáchym) and Meteotemplate grab them.
I want to Bypass WU and i thought to buy a Raspberry PI 3 for that..
Wich software should i choose (wich one is the best for you)
WEEWX or ws1001wxdata-master and Cumulus ??
Thanks for your reply

Hello gillesroszak,
For me, the best is to use weewx because your data is automatically updated by the API of meteotemplate so no need for job cron.
Have a good day

Re: weewx or Cumulus
I would recommend WeeWx because it directly supports Meteotemplate. Cumulus does not and Steve has no plans on adding this feature in the future so WeeWx does seem like a better choice.

What is the difference beetween using a Cron-job and using meteotemplate API directly ??
The update speed ??

Re: weewx or Cumulus
It means that WeeWx will do it for you. Setting up a CRON job is a bit complicated if you don´t know how to do it and unless your provider allows CRON jobs at very short intervals, you would rely on other external services, which can be down anytime. WeeWx will do it all. I would definitely go for WeeWx if the other option is Cumulus - simply because of the direct support and because it is actively being developed.

WeeWX doesn't run on Windows, but on the Linux platform.
It runs very well on a Raspberry PI computer.

Hello gillesroszak,
I found this may be to help you https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic ... M8qfrmrMfI and It doesn't need version 3 of python because weewx will not work then

Hi MeteoHerhet
It's very intersting but it seems to be very technical also may be a little too much for my knowledge. I'll read it And I'll see if it's within my competence.

Re: weewx or Cumulus
Hi Gilles,
Not sure if a Raspberry PI Zero w is such a good choice for this configuration.
During installation it might be handy to temporary connect a HDMi cable to your TV-set and a USB mouse and USB keyboard.
The PI Zero has only one free mini USB connector and the HDMI connector is also a mini type.
So probably you need a few adapter cables from mini to normal formats (or an USB hub with mini connector).
Also it is recommended to run linux on a USB-flash memory instead of the micro-SD card.
Personally I would recommend a Raspberry PI 3 model B which can be configured to boot directly from a USB-flash memory (without the need to place a micro SD-card) and has four USB slots for weather station, USB flash memory (and external wireless adapter for a bigger range) and an ethernet connector for a wired network connection.
I myself use a Raspberry PI 2 B with wired network connection to my router for my weather station software and I can send you my log book how I installed weewx.
Cheers, Luc

Hi guys,
Thanks a lot MeteoHerhet i will surely need your help.
Luc, I have all the necessery adapters, but I think it's possible to control the raspberry using Putty. NO?
If I install Rasbian on a flashdrive with mini usb connector instead of installing on th SD card will it works or not?

Re: weewx or Cumulus
Hi Gilles,
Yes, putty is the tool I use myself too.
I managed to install Raspbian on my RPI3 completely headless (without a monitor and keyboard/mouse connected to the RPI). The problem with this is that when something goes wrong you won't have a clue what is happening, so an initial monitor is handy.
Yes, you can install Raspbian on a flashdrive but you need also Raspbian on the SD-card during the boot process. On the RPI3 you can disable the SD card permanently. Not sure if the PI zero has this feature too.
You need also an USB connection to your weather station I presume? In that case you need an USB hub to connect both WS and flash drive.

Re: weewx or Cumulus
Hi Luc,
No I don't need any usb connection between PWS and PC my weather station send direct to wifi and for now i grab the data using ws1001wxdata-master a perl script and the data are sent to Cumulus.
do you think WEEWX could receive the data from the script I mentioned
