Hi Jachym,

The Auto Update works perfectly but I no longer use it because it systematically overwrites the changes made.

Hey Jachym,

Your summary of why the updates aren't working does not include the PHP ZIP option issue that several of us have posted. Could this be more central to the issue than users report (not knowing about it or how to fix)?

Can anyone confirm, that blocks with "icons" folder dont install with this folder? It looks like they dont, in which case it is not working for anyone

Jachym:

I just tried an auto install of the block Social Networks as a trial for you on the icons folder. I can confirm that for this block the icons folder did not download / install. Here is a snip from my ftp program after the auto install.

I just tried to auto-install the Australia current conditions block and it too was missing the icon directory!

Hi
According to the info.php in my template folder the zip is enabled on the version of PHP I have on my hosts shared server this also means I am do not have access to alter anything, so I will have to manage with manual block and plugin updates

Jachym:

In the past I received update notifications but since my site is running SSL and yours isn't I could not automatically download them. That problem seems to have now been resolved.

Thanks,

OK, I think I made up my mind... a compromise:

block/plugin update - will remain and unfortunately not work for some. It works for the majority and saves a lot of work, so I will keep it.

block auto-installation - will be removed because it is not working correctly for anyone

Jachym,

A great compromise. I have really liked the auto-update of the blocks and plugins. Makes it very easy. I hope you can get it worked out for all.

Hi Jay,
Im afraid this isnt technically possible, some providers block my provider and vice versa, or they have ZIP file handling disabled, and the user has no way to enable it. So I cannot help those who have this problem no matter what I do.

I agree that it's a good compromise. Either way I stand behind whatever Jachym decides.

If anyone wants to give a try to a modified test script for block installation (which should install icons folder too), drop me an email

crayleb wrote: Mon Oct 02, 2017 4:16 am No - now Yes. Godaddy hosting. Mine wasn't working - it was giving me a 500 Internal Server Error. My site is running PHP version 7.1. It was downloading the ZIP file fine but wasn't extracting it. I've since found that in cPanel I can turn on the ZIP file functionality in PHP. But now working perfectly.
I was getting a blank screen until I went to my cPanel and did what crayleb did.

Now, both blocks and plugins are working perfectly

Bug fix package released.

Fixes the issue with block installation and the updates will remain in the template, although not working for all. If it did not work for you before, it probably will not even after this fix.

Done the bugfix-update but no newer blocks and plugins available. But while V16 worked from the beginning for me I have no doubt that it will still work after the bugfix-package. :D

Installed the bug fixes and now the Block and Plugin auto update both appear to be working.

After installing the bug fix, it's working as expected. At first it didn't work. Upon further investigation, it was downloading the zip file, but not going further.

For my issue, the permissions weren't correct on the folders. After modifying the permissions, the plugin update worked nicely (There isn't a block update for me to test yet).
