The auto update leaves the downloaded zip files on your local server.
So you would have the best of both worlds!

If it works once it will work. If it doesnt work, it never works.

I made a test with one user with https and even that wont help.

This is not a bug, this means you have one "null" record at the beginning of the database, you need to delete it.

No, it doesn't work.
Use HTTPS and webspace at "one, com"

In your case it is most likely because of the https, https servers in general dont load ZIP files from http servers, probably not an issue with provider in this case.

Jachym,

I just updated to version 16 and the update went flawlessly. There was one plugin and one block to update and the automatic update worked perfectly. I'm sorry others are having issues with the auto updates, it is great. I hope it can be saved.
Thanks again for a great update.

Jay

In my environment, I had to enabled certain PHP extensions. ZIP (and CURL) is not normally enabled by default. YMMV in how you enabled the extensions.

Thats one possibility, although in case of https, they usually never allow this to load from http simply due to security reasons.

Go to the Edit Data page and click some random date in the calendar. Then in the URL you will see the date you chose in the calendar. Replace it with the 1 Jan 1970 and then delete the nonsense row

Auto update to 16 fine, cannot update auto plugins, clicking on the symbol for the plugin a new blank screen comes up and no other action.

Yay!! I'm glad enabling the zip extension worked for you. :)

BTW- I have noticed that these extensions aren't enabled (By default) if you use http, or https.
