Just an FYI re the UserMap plugin. I was a bit fed up with clicking on the url links to users websites only to find that the link was dead. The users.txt file has about 1500 records in it and about a third can't be contacted. This may be a for a variety of reasons but probably mostly because the sites no longer exist.
I have written a PowerShell script that downloads the users.txt file from meteotemplate.com file and goes through all 1500+ records and saves all the records that get good responses (HTTP status = 200) into another file (of course a 200 respose does not mean there is a meteotemplate website running there). This file contains approx 840 sites and the end result can be seen on my weather website at https://www.dumfries-weather.com/plugin ... /index.php (site is only available in certain countries).
If you want this verified users.txt text file it is available Here. Just rename to users.txt and upload to your appropriate meteotemplate folder e.g. ..\plugins\userMap
I have set up a scheduled job that runs this script every week, so the file mentioned above will be updated every Monday morning.

That is an interesting one.

Powershell comes back with this error
"Invoke-WebRequest : The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel."

I think it is to do with the TLS version that Powershell tries to use. I may have a fix for that - will check it out shortly

OK - this is now fixed and txt files have been updated.

In fact this has increased the total verified sites to 998 (from 932), so thanks for promptly bringing that to my attention.
I have also added a link to the latest verified users.txt file in my signature - this will never be more than a week older than Jachym's master file

idea that is good, but there are operational sites that are actually urls that are inaccurate (example: http://meteoballabio.altervista.org/template/) and if you modify by:
http://meteoballabio.altervista.org/tem ... esktop.php, the link is OK, so hard to delete or keep, it's a real puzzle.

I think it is simple, if the link does not work - for whatever reason - I don't want to see it. I don't want to have to try various alternative url's in case one of them just might work.
It is the responsibility of the owner of the weather website to check at least once on meteotemplate.com that the link to their website is correct Also the problem you found amounts to a very basic website miss-configuration - setting up the default document. How did the owner not pick that up???
However I will do a check to see how many this may apply to with just index.php and indexDesktop.php.

OK - this only applies to 6 websites (0.3% approx of the 1500 listed), so not really worth worrying about.

My bad - will fix problem - should be there in 45 mins.

I had updated the script and left a bug in it. Fixed now and file is there.

Glad you find it useful. I'm not sure whether Jachym is still updating this file now, but I download it and update it each week anyway.
I only say this because I requested an update in July (I moved house and changed the url to my weather website) and he has not dealt with it yet - he said it would take a while because he is busy on work matters.
This is NOT a criticism of Jachym who has done an amazing job with this software.

I know about this and there are two possible reasons - one is that the site really no longer exist, the other is that some users often change their template URL - eg. they change URL with each version (not a very good idea, but it is true) or because they first test it on some subdomain, register, I insert the URL to the users list and they then make it their default landing homepage.

I was thinking about this and I came to conclusion that I will just leave it like that - present and past users because it would be too time-consuming to try to contact everyone - "did you delete your MT website or does it have a new URL".

Yea - that will work of course - only trouble is that if the 'old' site uses a domain name you pay for (which in my case it did) - you have to keep paying for it when you don't really use it.!
