Block layout

I'm a perfectionist, sorry about that. :-)

Most of my blocks have a menu-icon on top. The reason is obvious: my home page is less crowdy and loads faster and still I have the other blocks available 'in the back ground'.
The only 'disadvantage' is a bigger empty space on the top of the block for the menu-icon.

Some other icons appear at the bottom, like the full-screen icon.
I like to see these icons moved to the right upper side of the block to let them use the same space as the menu-icon.

Something else: the borders left and right are wider than the borders between two columns.
I like to see them with equal width.

Am I the only one in this?

Hello Luc,

that is the reason for layouting my Meteotemplate the way I have done it. Only one column, and as less as possible Blocks (I know, there are always too much, but Jachym don't make it easy for one to decide what to display and what not - all Blocks are well thought and looking good). ;)

But for now I personally am happy with the look and feel of the Homepage section of my Meteotemplate, I am using 29 blocks, and I do not want to exceed 30.

So far,
Reinhard

Hi Reinhard,
I like the concept of your website very much. Well thought and carefully designed!
Also some own coding in header and footer I noticed. Lot's of new ideas for me to try out. Thanks!
Luc
P.S. For me you're a candidate for next edition of MT's Template of the Month!

Luc the buttons at the bottom have a slightly different purpose and Im not sure I want to do this change, i guess there is no right or wrong answer and I personally think that the menu should be at the top, but the other elements would be distracting there

Borders - not sure what you mean, can you post a screen? The edges of the page have a wider margin, but that is intentional

Hi Jachym, I am in agreement with Luc on this suggestion, it would make sense that if you're going to have any menu options/choices you would keep them all in the same area, either all at the top or at the bottom of the block. This is in keeping with pretty much most software where all choices are across the top of the screen.

In so doing there is less room taken up by the block, it's because of this I reluctantly removed the 'Full Screen' and 'Export' options on my blocks as I thought they took up too much room. It would be interesting see what others think about this.

Hi,

the real problem lies in the fact how this works in the backend. Because... the menu icon is not part of the block. Notice that when you switch a block, this remains the same - obviously because the menu is not part of any block code - and the block loads below that. Whereas the icons full-screen etc. are related to the actual block and are integral part of it.

This means they cant really be next to each other. Think of it like a box below the menu, where the block is loaded. I could theoretically move the icons to the top, but they won´t be inline with the menu, they simply cannot, they would be on the right or left, but below it, not next to it.

The buttons at the bottom are inside the block. The block loads in a box, which is below the menu button.

If that's the case Jachym then there would be no point in making such a change. There would be no space saved and would probably make the block layout look clumsy. I guess this is why you've laid it out as you have. Again it would be good to hear other points of view.

Yes, if I say, ok let´s move it, it will be line below the menu button, not to the right of it, so I think in that case it looks better at the bottom..

I am also curious looking around all sorts of layouts to find something interesting. And as you said: Ideas are here to be tried out, some fit soemones needs, other ones does not.

Thank you for the flowers, much appreciated. The primary goal for my website is that it suits to my imagination of design - and well, we all know the liking of people is a very different one. And that is good, otherwise we would only see another template and no design. :D

Cheers,
Reinhard
