Hello,

If I try to use the option to change my sites language or display units (clicking on the ‘gear’ icon on top right of page), my web host provider is triggering a warning and blocking the site from loading:
Has anyone experienced this with their provider and figured out how to resolve?

At my web site I can switch the language, but I cant for i.e. activate a WordPress instance due to a write protection.
In my control panel I can turn off this protection, but may be your provider has a more secure protection? Check in your control panel, if you do have such an option or ask the support from your provider.

I think you are right that it is the provider. I did find out I can whitelist some processes so I am hoping to use this to make the work. Good thing is I don't think this option gets used very often on my site.
