Erroneus Date in Extremes Table

I have the extremes block installed on my site, however I have noticed that whilst all of my site data starts in 2009, the extremes table is showing data from Jan 1, 1970.
If I edit the site data in my site Control Panel, I cannot select 1970 to edit - it doesn't exist.
If I have a look at the alldata table using phpMyAdmin, it doesn't show any data prior to June 01, 2009.
What can be causing this error if the date does not *seem* to appear in the alldata table?
