Visitors counter

Post by aznetcowboy » Sun Apr 22, 2018 12:27 am

I was wondering about what would be the best visitor counter to use with meteotemplate? I don't care to use anything Google unless necessary.

If you are looking for just a counter then all those listed on the web are equally bad. If you are looking for an analytics service without Google I would encourage the use of Matomo. https://matomo.org/

Jay,

Where did you install the Matomo code to make it work. I tried it but got nowhere, :o

Tom,

I placed the tracking code in header.php directly under the google analytics section. Using Matomo means that if Jachym changes the header.php you need to remember to put the tracking code back.

I tried as you suggested, but it would not work for me. Thus I gave up on it. :(

Hi Tom,
Nothing compares to google analytics features, so i would sugest you to try it, but if you just want a counter, then my choice would be revolvermaps at https://www.revolvermaps.com/?target=gallery
I have been using it since june last year and It works fine, it is very light, non intrusive and it gives a very good info about #visits and visitors.
I use their link widget script (https://www.revolvermaps.com/?target=setuplink) because it has the advantage of beeing almost hidden from site visitors (in case you want the counter to be discrete) :-)
Check my site and i doubt you will find where the counter link is :-)

love the revolvermaps widget. As you say, very very discreet. Not so keen on the sharing of information with advertisers but. heyho, you cannot have everything I suppose. Like others I have Matomo installed and it DOES work very well with your own personal dashboard. I have not gone as far as to install the analytics code on EVERY page but I have a few add-on pages of my own that have a very detailed record of visits. Keep trying with Matomo as I had trouble at the start but persistence paid off in the end. It is not visible on any of the pages but having a personal dashboard is QUITE impressive

I use a really simple and free counter that just shows where my visitors come from. It is a single line of code and I used the blank block to create it.

www.flagcounter.com

the result is at the bottom in the right column of my page.

if you click in the box on my page, you will get more details.

It is pretty basic, and even though I could put page counts on it, I choose not to.

I use the same as Dehatter suggest www.flagcounter.com and also http://statcounter.com at the same time as it gives me a running total on the bottom left footer instead of the time. The reason I like statcounter is I can flag my own IP to not count when I work on and check my site. You can choice both java and non java based code. Simple with about the same info as google analytics with some less info and more such as IP address's, City, State and Country looking at your site.. have been testing the free version which seems all I need. Statcounter does not work with Chrome or Firefox as they no longer support java. Not sure about Mac or IOS systems as I have no way of testing.

I've been using statcounter for quite a while. It's free but limited to 500 entries before it starts to overwrite the older ones.

I thought it was 2000 or something like that. either way I am not willing to pay 7 pounds or euro's they want a month to retain the counter data for 10 years or whatever it way.
