Hello from Sollebrunn, Sweden.

Post by DadOfZelda » Tue Jun 26, 2018 10:27 pm

Hi everyone, Christian here.

I found this amazing template when I was checking around for a way to spread the information I got from my weather station.

I bought a Davis Wireless Vantage Pro2 Plus w/UV & Solar Radiation Sensors, 3 years ago but did not manage to get it up running until a couple months ago. My goal is to have it as a part of my home automation. Want to connect "things" together via a program and/or wire. 1+1=3 as they say ;). Sad to say but my anemometer is broken (DOA) no warranty left so no complete wind data until that problem is fixed.

I have been in IT Business for over 25 years but never work with or as programming/programmer. So this is my way to learn something new in old days.

I had a raspberry pi left, so thought that could be used as weather server. My choice is Meteohub as software.

A few hours after I got my token to download meteotemplate the first embryo of my weather site is alive. www.sollebrunn.net
But I have already had a bunch of questions so beware now when I can post in this forum ;)

Looking forward to this journey.

With Kind Regards
Christian

G'day, Christian,

Welcome to the forum.

You've been busy. Your site looks like it's coming together nicely.

Questions? Ask away, there are plenty of people here who will help if they can.

Cheers,
John

Hej John, and tnx!

Well, it takes a little time to get used to the template but is surprisingly easy. But I'm humble to understand that there is plenty to learn and possibilities to expand and develop the site.

You to have a nice site, love the colour you choose and the gauges.

Have a question, what settings let you expand the site to use all width of the monitor? As you can see on my site I have black fields on both sides of the template.

From a Sweden with near Australian weather today :-)

Cheers
Christian

Hi Christian, another John here and also welcome to the forum.

To expand your MT pages to fill the full width of the screen, log into your account, under 'Administration' go to 'Main Setup', scroll way down the page until you get to 'Further Template Customisation' then in Custom Page Width, change this to 100%

This should get rid of the background bars right and left of your pages.

Cool, glad it worked, as John from down under mentions there are plenty of very tech-savvy folk on the forum who can point you in the right direction. :)

Hi Christian, You have got settled in with MT so I see. I also opted for a full width display as I was very anxious to get everything up and running in February. Since then I have been studying other layouts and will be experimenting with alternative, two or three block across, panelling with the idea of creating a "reserve" layout to launch in the future. Jachym advises experimenting like that so when I am less busy with other things I will certainly be doing that. Hope you get along just fine and keep in touch from time to time. I will answer any questions if I can

regards Steve

Hi Steve,

Yes, I think MT is a very versatile and nice looking way of getting weather data public. I will certainly try different layouts with different blocks and plugins by time. As you were I now just try to get things up :-).

I thought I could find any link to your site but was hard. Would have been nice to get some inspiration :-)

But I see you use Cumulus as software, does that mean you need to have a PC running all times?

Kind Regards
/Christian

Hi Christian, I am at http://the9libraries.org.uk/template/indexDesktop.php I see that some have managed to attach a link to their site badge but that is something I have not got around to yet. At the moment i am running Cumulus for about 15 hours a day. I DO shut it down overnight to save on the energy consumption but I now have both a meteobridge and a Davis Wireless Station recently acquired so will be setting up an alternative system in the autumn. Cumulus is SO simple to use and I am perfectly content with it at the moment.

best regards Steve

Hi

To make the sticker clickable to a webpage, see below

Before the [img] tag put [url=http://www.yourwebpage.xx] and after the [/img] tag put [/url]

My example below without "" in the beginning and end.

""[url=http://www.sollebrunn.net][img]http://www.sollebrunn.net/template/plug ... ualUnits=1[/img][/url]""

I think meteobridge and Davis is a winning team, I chose my setup because I had a raspberry pi in the drawer. All work except the UV settings that I don't have managed to get online yet.

thanks Christian, that seems to work quite nicely. I am trying to work out an automated jukebox so that visitors to the site can play anything from a selection of songs just for their amusement. It is giving me HUGE headaches at the moment despite some fairly detailed instructions. Thank goodness I got the sticker/badge working without any such problems

Hi Steve,

I'm sure you're already aware of the audio block, but it's not a jukebox, so it will be interesting to see what you manage to do. Paulo has chilled lounge music mix on his homepage, (penultimate block bottom left)

Well, I have been working away diligently in a bewildering way and have so far got to this point.

http://the9libraries.org.uk/jukebox/jukebox.html

This is SO far from being perfect but appears to work in a semi-coherent fashion. If anyone has any advice on the coding (apart from DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GIVE UP THE DAYJOB  ) I would be happy to receive. The principle problem is to get to a selective menu rather than just let it run through without interference. Try interfering and you will see the problem

Hi Steve,

Well I tried your Jukebox and it all seems to work okay - well done. I liked the lyrics to Baz Luhrmann - Wear Sunscreen.

I know we're off topic here, but just in case you're interested in more than a Jukebox, you might like RadioDJ, when set up correctly this will automatically mix your tracks and it's free. Install is a little more than executing an .exe as you have to pre-install a database first. You'll also need to have your music collection tagged correctly. If your really serious you can even transmit the output to the internet.

Hi John,
I have bookmarked that suggestion and will investigate further. Presumably we are talking about a database on your own pc and not actually on your web platform
