If I remember correctly one of them is calculated in real-time, the other one is at midnight (because it is cached and therefore loads faster). It was a comprimise to make the page load faster and the difference should be very small.

Or maybe hang on, I think I know. In the plugin you choose a particular day, so it is calculated for midnight. In case of the block it is real-time calculation.
