Need to manually delete the Cache folder for the Riset block to keep up

Post by RonnyT » Tue Jun 27, 2023 8:37 pm

Hi!
My riset block works fine the first time you visit the site but the next and next etc the sun/moon just wont move until I manually log into the server and delete the cache folder...
I am on ver. 7.7 and all look fine except the cache problem.

Are perhaps people running a cron job that delete all files in the cache folder every few minutes??

My site, riset top right:

Very strange, looked up into the block and did not found any relation with a cache directory!?
Updated (replaced) the riset block at my site from 7.0 to 7.7 and all seems working.

I do not have any job running for cleaning the cache folder.

But noticed, that somewhere the internet line from Germany to Norway is very, very slow. Loading your page lasts about 60s+ :o .
Sometime I get a "connection timeout" . No idea, where the bits are dropped.

Regards

very strange about the timing, but sometime after I posted I imported 24 database files from weather display log files and reformatted the database, perhaps it was at that time you tried.
I am 100% sure that clearing the cache folder reloads the block at the correct time, otherwise it stays stuck for hours at least...
But it might not be the block itself but something with the main template... I had a very hard time to even get it to display anything initially and the menu forecast page I just had to remove as I couldn't get past the error 500...

Hoping things get better now that a major update is imminent :)

The site does again died out when reloading a few seconds ago :( .

So not sure, what is bad behaviour of block and what is slow connection.
The block shows me today, but the sun/moon icons remains all day at about 08:19.

can confirm a ctrl-F5 does not help in the browser, ctrl-F5 after deleting the template\cache folder works.
I see now that also the cloudheight and airquality block have the same problem ...

Now it is correct adter deleting cache:

No idea about this weird issue.
At least once the riset shows the actual time, even if site is not fully loaded.
Screenshots attached from several trials to (re)load the page.

thank you that was good information, looks like I need to open a support case with cloudflare ... I will pause the entire cloudflare for a few hours and see if that helps. It works really well from home at work and phone here in Norway...

I have bypassed all caching for the site at cloudflare now to see if that helps ... if no differece I will disable cloudflare all together and see...

Seems, that this helped a lot.
Loading of page is now done in a few seconds. :)
In my Firefox the riset/cloud block still remain at the values from 08:10 this morning (will empty cache later).
Loaded the page with Edge (I usually do not use Edge for internet) and all blocks show the current figures.

So may be an issue with the Cloudflare...?

I agree ... cloudflare is my problem.
I will keep cloudflare off and test again after the upgrade soon ... I need cloudflare because when lightning storms occur the site often goes down due to enormous amount of visitors, more than the isp can handle...

Searching the forums for cloudflare I see I was far from the first one who had their site broken by cloudflare and slow caching... lesson learned :)

Seems, that Cloudflare and Firefox are not best friends :D .
In Firefox the riset/cloud blocks remain unchanged since yesterday, riset still show June, 28th, whereas in Edge the current day and sun/moon position is displayed.
At my site all is correct with the riset block (with both browsers).

Regards

Edit: Ctrl+F5 brings current values in Firefox too.
Edit 2: Its must be at your site anyhow. The riset block works without Ctrl+F5 at my site when refreshing/reloading the page.
