Sponsors block?

Post by stuee » Sun Oct 01, 2017 1:26 am

Hi.
Im setting up a weather safety website and want on the right a block with sponsor logos as i have some businesses wanting to put in money to help with the funding for hosing and hardware.

I was thinking of designing their logos into a 300x250px size gif or jpg then have it so it links to their website.

Is there some sort of plugin for this. so i can just upload the image to a folder then click add and put in a link address and also change order of logos.

thanks

It’s against TOS. Read up on the link below:

thanks for the reply.

Its not to make money , ive spent over $10,000 and its ongoing for this community free website.
I have some businesses that would like to sponsor to help with equipment and hosting fees. My Lightning tracker itself cost over $3500.

Note there is a PayPal Donation block that Jachym provides - a better alternative. That way you are not advertising or placing logos on the template which might violate the non commercial use of data required by some sources. Most all of us have invested a considerable amount of money to buy our stations and pay for hosting our sites.

Let me reply this way:

Looking at your site, over 95% of it is my work, my time and my money (yes money, hosting is also not free and thats not to mention the literally thousands of hours going into it).
Meteotemplate cost you exactly $0 - unlike myself, it cost me quite a lot, and the costs are ever increasing - also a community page for others...
Given all these costs I have, the fact I dont even have a PWS now, a decent PC, am I assuming correctly that 95% of your profit will be sent to my PayPal account? It would make sense wouldnt it, fair deal....

Now a bit more seriously - there are scripts which use data available only for non-commercial use, there are scripts which use libraries also available only for non-commercial use. Count the number of ads and banners you see on my webpage to offset the ever increasing costs for hosting all this and making the page relatively fast.

Last but not least - even if you think the above points are not valid - it is clearly stated in the T&C you agreed with when you installed MT in the first place. Saying "I only like these points from the terms and I disagree with these so I will ignore them" is Im afraid not how it works.

Hi, sorry i wasn't being funny.
Sponsor or donations are the same thing as its not commercial or profit.
You do a great job and understand the costs you would be paying out. If you charged $500 for this and we can do what we want i would more than happy pay that.

Ill scrap that idea then and like yourself hope i get some donations.
Once im up and running ill happily donate some money to help you out.

cheers

Yes, that would be nice to charge 500 for it, except no-one would pay it...

If you think it will help you substantially, then use it, but in case someone has a problem with it (due to some license, although very unlikely someone would say something), then you have been warned. I have to make sure I inform people about this so that no-one then comes to me saying "you didnt tell me".

What I will not tolerate and this also hapenned in the past, is people directly selling the scripts. - not saying you want to do it or did it, but this is something where I will not make any exceptions - which I think is understandable.

Bottomline - if you want to send me 500 and use sponsors blocks - feel free to do so.

Thanks.
That was the aim of the sponsor block was to pay for the hosting, software and the 20 weather stations i was going to make with raspberry PI and have in the same radius as my lightning tracker.

Some people are just dicks, i cant believe they would sell your scripts.

You would be amazed what some users are capable of doing - SOME, of course not majority. But Ive seen all sorts of things, you sort of become resistant to this, but if I got some of the emails Im getting now 2yrs ago Im 100% sure I would call it a day.

One other developer not long ago stopped developing his template for this very reason.
