These are two pictures the official weather station on Norderney, one of the east frisian islands in Northwestern Germany. It is positioned in the dune chain, very close to the North beach. It is usually not open to the public, so i had to take the picture of the instruments with some distance.
The station was staffed round the clock until the early 2010s, but today it operates semi-automatic and is only occassionally manned during the daytime hours. Additionally, a weather balloon is launched twice a day (11:45 AM/PM local time), measuring temperature, humidity, pressure, wind speed and wind direction.
Second picture shows the information board for the public (in German).
Heading translated: "Weather Observation on Norderney up to a height of 35 km" (~55 miles).
Pictures were taken during a vacation on the island in summer 2012.
