Greetings from Croatia

Post by rjuricic » Sun Aug 20, 2017 7:47 pm

Hi,
My name is Robert, im 26yrs old, living in Zagreb, Croatia during the workdays, and in Ostarije - 100km west from Zg during weekends.

Weather is my passion from childhood. I got high school degree in Meteorology, but changed my interests to chemistry and got Masters degree in Chemical engineering. Currently im working in Pliva Croatia, in Quality assurance - i always dreamed to work as meteorologist, but hated physics in time when needed to decide on which college to go.

So weather stayed my hobby on which i spend more and more time as getting older.
I had various weather systems constantly improving as possible in matter of data quality and number of variables monitored, starting from WS2300 in 2008., IROX Pro from 2010, WS1001 from 2014., and recently upgraded to Davis VP2 Pro ISS paired with MB. Now im taking focus on developing diy systems based on Arduino and similar, to cover what is still missing and learn something new. In parallel with that, i have one website with Meteotemplate running on it.

Meteotemplate, which im using since Dec2016. has forced me to take better care on data acquisition and storage and resulted in forming of MySQL DB with all measurements taken from 2008. when got first AWS till today. Thank you Jachym :) .

Beside meteorology, i have great interest in programming, especially in MS Access (VBA), Arduino, MySQL, SAP and little bit of PHP. My other hobbies are macrophotography, biking, cooking, floriculture, theology.
I dont own pets, if we dont count plants as pets  .

I also like data, i have analytical way of thinking and tendency to put all around me in some kind of statistical window, to explain/predict everything based on statistics. I sometimes exaggerate in details, like now, but all in good matter of better understanding what and why.

I just like statistics

Im fan of everything what is user related, allowing to learn and develop and giving freedom of thoughts and ideas in process.

Data, macrophotography, biking...

Did you just use copy/paste from my post? :D

P.S. I also studied sciences (Mol. bio / genetics in my case) and now I work as a meteorologist. I don't necessarily do the actual forecasts, but I'm sure that you would find a job in that field too :-)

My dream job though would probably be a data analyst/scientist

Cooking is addition to yours intro :D

Well, when i was reading your introduction, it was like im reading my own from others perspective :o

Now, im asking myself, what is the probability to have two samples from slightly different source which have very similar probability function? (notice two probabilites in one sentence)

Mol. bio is great, it is very close to chemistry and still very unexplored area.
Im more interested in "micro living things", it always fascinated me how complex can be life of such small and relatively simple microorganisms and how can we get antibiotics and similar bio stuff capable to fight off various diseases.

Forecasting is sometimes ungrateful job, i like numerical part of it (WRF for example), but visual interpretation of results is not so interesting, especially when deviations from actual data are increasing with timeframe.

I like my current job, it is all about collecting, analyzing and interpreting data :)

Probably the "best" part of it is when you get phone calls from people regarding forecast accuracy - and surprise surprise, the way human brain works means people only notice when it was inaccurate :D

New post Alldata & SQL

Post by OsaD » Fri Oct 13, 2017 7:17 am

Sorry folks, I cnnot find a place to start a new thread so I am going to try to piggy back my way in via this series. I am somewhat of a newbie except I have been trying to get php, mysql running on my own 2016 server since July. I have my weathersite hosted on an outside service until I get this running at home.

I have my server up and running, and can connect Template to MySQL at local host. But when I put a name like alldata for the database, It can't find the database. and won't connect. So I went to the SQL database and added an empty (alldata)folder in the master data directory and ran the SQL test again and it connected and said database created. I went to the SQL data base and found three alldata files. I am thinking success at last....not! The first file had some about 20 garbled characters scattered all over. The second file was blank and the third also had some scrambled characters...none seemed to be related to the actual alldata setup file.. This told me that template was talking to localhose, but not really uplaading a table.

Anyway, I completed the setup.php document, but it would not save. Gave a message about needing administrative credentials. Ironic as I am the sole user and administrator on this server. It suggested I recheck my SQL configuration to resolve the problem. In the setup installation of MySQL there are two places to add credentials. Both are set to Administrator and have the same temorary password for setup and use.. Has anyone experiecned similar problems.??

Thanks Pat
