Hiding Warnings Block

Post by stewart45 » Mon Sep 04, 2017 8:29 am

Not sure if I dreamt this (or maybe it was on another template possibly Leuven)but here goes, I have the warning UK block on my main page which for 99% of the time has nothing to report is it possible to hide the block so that it is only visible when there is a warning in force

Hi,
must have been a dream :D

Now, seriously, no, the block will show "No warnings", when no warnings are detected.

Stewart.
I wanted to do the same thing. What I ended up doing is the following:
On the set up for the warnings block, it allows for text when there is NO warning. I left this blank.
When the block is displayed, it is slightly less tall, and just looks like a blank rectangle. When there is a warning in gets slightly taller in height and displays what ever text you placed in RED.

Hi guys,
here is my opinion - it is IMHO not a good idea to do this and I will therefore not implement this myself (feel free to do it yourself).
Here is why:
You know the website, you know that there is a warnings block and that if it was missing, there is no warning.
However consider this difference:

1. warnings block shows "No warnings" and is still visible (current state) - visitor knows there is no warning issued
2. warnings block hides when there is no warning (proposed state) - visitor has no idea if there is a warning or not because they have no idea such block would show if there was. They would simply think warnings is something you did not implement to your website.

I wish my warning block was green... :( Don't select "More" on mine. Way too many warnings.

I think my users definitely want to know 'No Warnings', especially during thunderstorm and tornado seasons. If there is a change made to this block I propose that the setup gives a choice to set either 'No Warnings' or disappear. I agree with Jachym that knowing there is not a warning active is important.
