Web Cam recommendations

Post by stewart45 » Fri Oct 20, 2017 11:33 am

My old Hikvision webcam has finally failed, so am looking for a new one, would like to avoid past problems with non display on various browser platforms, I believe this is a common problem caused by change in browser protocols any help would be gratefully received
P.S. looking for an outdoor POE version

Hi Stewart, there are so many camera's out there now, it's really hard to make a choice, hopefully the other forum members who have camera experience can make some suggestions here. I was looking at Reolink camera's a few weeks ago, there are no monthly or annual charges, most are Power Over Ethernet and they receive good reviews - I don't know if they are suitable for your use, but it might be worth a look.

G'day, Stewart,

The camera used here is a security camera, a Ubiquiti (UniFi G3). It's suitable for outside use and is a 'bullet' style. There is also a 'dome' style available. This one is mounted on a mast mounted on the house ridge capping and fully exposed to the elements.

It's too early to comment on its reliability as it's only been installed for two or three months, but it does what it's supposed to do. Streaming? Yes it does, but I didn't want to stream to a site (the thought of overhead costs worried me) so didn't investigate any further. I have it set up to have a program take a snapshot each 60-seconds and have a program which then uploads that single image to the site.

I don't know whether this is suitable for your purposes but suspect that it is. It might be worth a look, anyway.

John
