Retired and love every bit of it. Gives me more time to enjoy my hobbies, watching the weather and riding my Harley. Just got my Meteotemplate site up today. Have much work to do and much to learn. Great program. Love the features. Great job Jachym. I have two weather stations at different locations that I eventually plan to use Meteotemplate on.

My biggest challenge with one of my stations is the birds. It's at a remote location that I'm not at all the time. I have it setup with the anemometer on a pole about 10 feet tall and the rest of the station is mounded below the on a tripod. When I'm there I always see birds perched on the wind cups. Now my theory is, that they take turns perching on the wind cups spinning around to see who can hit the rain bucket below the most. Maybe birds aren't such bird brains after all.

Hi there and welcome to the forum, is there anyway you could mount bird spikes above the anemometer? Do a search on Amazon - there are different types available.

Buy a stuffed cat and attach it below the wind sensor - problem solved

The bird spikes won't work. The anemometer is ten feet above the bucket. A stuffed cat, Hmmm, maybe. I asked my wife about using one of her real cats, not a good idea. Oh well, I'll just clean it more often.

There was even a Great Horn Owl perched on the anemometer once. Needless to say I had to take the anemometer down to readjust it. At least he didn't break anything.

Hello from across the Sound in Seattle!
My first thought is: does the rain gauge need to be installed under the anemometer pole? Bird spikes on my rain gauge have solved bucket cleaning problems as there are no potential bird perches above the gauge.

The rain gauge is getting a good workout today. I have the problem with birds at our place in Selah. I'm looking at getting a wireless transmitter for the anemometer so I can separate the two. The ISS has to stay close to the house because the rain bucket needs power for the heater. Last year we had 3' snow there. The birds aren't really much of a problem this time of year.
