Why so many block without a title?

Post by aznetcowboy » Tue May 08, 2018 10:36 pm

I have noticed some block have titles on the top of the block while many don't. Some that don't have a title include Current Conditions, NWS Forecast, SS Gauges and Trivia to name a few. Others like Fire danger index, Air Quality Index, and Glossary have heading with the name of the block (or what its task is). Why don't all blocks have a header with the name and/or task?

Just an observation on my part.

I usually did not include titles on blocks which are sort of "self-explanatory" - like current conditions etc. The aim is always to make the homepage as compact as possible because there is limited amount of space, so blocks which do not 100% need the title dont have one because it is obvious.

Those of us who are into weather observations like we are will understand what is happening. However there are visitors to our sites who have a problem knowing what is in a block. I am speaking of (unfortunately) some residents of my neighborhood association who really like to check in on my site for daily updates. I have had questions like what the top header (Current Conditions) is, especially when at times it is displaying Celsius readings. Thus the reason for my observation/question.

I have made this same argument before. :-)

There is a simple fix actually.

Just add

Title

as the first thing in the block HTML and it will show the title in the right format as other blocks

Like Jachym said in his first post... I myself prefer to keep it simple and basic to save on the byte count. Unneeded text in blocks and plugins just takes more room and bandwidth which I prefer to keep as low as possible. Most blocks and plugins are self explanatory anyway. My personal choice.
