ecForecast Block

Post by BlueBear » Sun Jun 17, 2018 4:37 pm

Looks like Environment Canada has done something again!

This block currently shows the graphic portion of the forecast but when you click on the "More" button all that happens is it changed to "Hide", not the text forecast that it used to show!

Problem shows on my site http://www.sanfordweather.com and a couple other Canadian sites!

Hi Bluebear,

I got the same issue on my site, it's not the first time they do that. They don't like we use the data from them.

In the last year, I think Jachym change his script 2 or 3 time already.

I hope he will be able to change it again when he have a time.

5 times guys and I said in the blog the last time I changed it that if this happens one more time within the next 12 months (this was I think in Dec), I give up.

I really think that unless they make an API, or some kind of an XML file, which is clearly to be used be others, there is no point. They are doing it on purpose, changing things you dont even see on the page, but in the code yes to make any scraping scripts non-functional

I agree that they seem to make changes on a whim for no apparent reason. Ken was having the same frustration so he switched to an XML based script see his post here https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=32901.0

I've hacked together a block using his code that sort of works on my site, needs much tweaking to get colours right and some stuff spills over the edge of the page.

Look on my site on the Menu in the Forecast Block for My-ecForecast
