Re: World Weather
Just found this:
Important EOL Notice: As of Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019, the weather.yahooapis.com and query.yahooapis.com for Yahoo Weather API will be retired.
To continue using our free Yahoo Weather APIs, use https://weather-ydn-yql.media.yahoo.com/forecastrss.
Looks like a change in source!

Re: World Weather
If you use the Forecast Block you will also see the Yahoo selection has quit working. The World Weather uses Yahoo api as does the Yahoo selection in the Forecast Block. Here is a statement from Yahoo that I just searched out.

Re: World Weather
Hi,
see the blog. The new API is unusable. The reason they made this change is to limit the number of calls as well as users. There is not even a registration form, I wonder how they want to handle the thousands of emails they will get now. And there is no way to estimate the number of calls - this depends on the number of visitor´s to each person´s site.
Free and unlimited APIs are thing of the past - WU, Yahoo, Google Maps, Ambient Weather etc etc - just to name the few which changed their licenses of the 2.5 yrs Ive been working on MT.

Re: World Weather
Well then.... worldweather now removed.....
No chance of a rewrite based on https://www.checkwx.com using local metars?
They still have a totally free API key and 2000 requests a day per user. Obviously each of us would have to get a key.

Re: World Weather
The problem with that is that METARs are very inconsistent. Some of them give temperature, some dont etc. If I look at the link you sent, for example my location, or the other nearby airport dont show any weather at all:
https://www.checkwx.com/weather/LKTB
at least at the time I checked. What we need is a source that gives consistent results for all locations. There is a METAR block already so theoretically you can use this instead.

Re: World Weather
OK I guess this could potentially work, although I see two issues there:
- data is inconsistent given how METARs are reported - for example notice that some stations have conditions, some dont, which is a slight problem because the original block showed icons.
- data is only available for METAR cities (unlike Yahoo) which limits the possible choices
I can put it on my to-do list to look at it.

Re: World Weather
The inconsistancy in METAR data is usually from the station reporting.
I see a full report.
https://www.checkwx.com/weather/LKTB/metar
The JSON response looks pretty standard and can be used with multiple METAR location inputs (I would guess as workweather block would require).
https://api.checkwx.com/#32-multiple
Thanks for looking at it anyway.
I am already using my key for other data applications, and seems to be working very well.

Re: World Weather
Yes that is not a problem with that website, METARs are not 100% consistent. They use consistent nomenclature, but not consistent content, not all fields are always included

Re: World Weather
I have just removed World Weather from my desktop page. The World Weather Block is obviously still showing on the Installed Block page but there is no dustbin icon. Is it just a question of deleting the Block via ftp.
