WU has no elements

Post by danville » Mon Jan 08, 2018 5:33 pm

Currently showing Offline on my main Meteogram "Current" page for extended periods.

I use WeeWx on an Apache (linux) server and I am receiving the message when I then manually run cron in a web browser that "Data received from WU has no elements"

When I manually run the cron line again in a web browser it shows "Success" and updates instead of "Data received from WU has no elements" but then stops working about 30 minutes or so later. The cron is set to update every 5 minutes and was working well prior to 17 upgrade (and the bug update prior to that).

Is it possible that there is a problem with cron? What does a working (5 min update) cron line look like?

Any help is appreciated.

For me (Running on my Synology NAS, which it's running Apache 2.4) this syntax works great...

0,5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55 <TAB> * <TAB> * <TAB> * <TAB> * <TAB> root <TAB> sudo curl "http://URL/to/the/location/of/the/local.php?password=****************"

Where you see <TAB>, hit the TAB button, or if it doesn't work correctly, just use 5 spaces.

After trying numerous variations with cron, webmin cron scheduler yielded some short-term success. However, after 3 updates (15 minutes) updates stopped.

Could there be a problem with the frequency of calls to wunderground?

Depends on what plan you have with WU.

I am on the Stratus Developer Plan for WU (Free)
- Calls Per Day: 500
- Calls Per Minute: 10

The best way would be to leave it for 24 hours and see if it starts working again.

Still having an issue that is still intermittent. Values show and then do not appear later on in the Current block. After a few cycles, the values will appear. Here is what it looks like without the values. Could it be a permissions issue?

More likely CRON problems. If it works "sometimes" it cannot be permission issue or script issue. In such case it would never work.

I believe the issue is with error "Data received from WU has no elements" This message appears when I manually run

http://servername/template/update/updat ... d=password

Why would WU have no elements?

I think the Current block is not working. My Weather sticker shows the correct weather station readings. The Current block still reads Offline.

WU is down, unfortunately.

You can try to see the output of:

https://www.wunderground.com/weathersta ... p?ID=<your station ID>&format=XML

Congratulations!

I don't rely on WU as well (I just share my data with them). Better to cut ties to WU now. I honestly don't see them getting better. Maybe they will turn a new leaf in 2018 and become more reliable..
